The first period

Teaching content:

 Let’s start  Let’s chant  A Let’s learn  Group work

Teaching aims:

1.      Enable Ss to master three-skill words about month and master the abbreviation: Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May. June. July. Aug. Sep. Oct. Nov. Dec.

2.      Enable Ss to classify four seasons according to 12 months.

3.      Enable Ss to use the sentence pattern: When is your birthday? My birthday is in____. And make a survey in groups.

4.      Enable Ss to master the chant.

I.P: Master three-skill words about month and abbreviation.

D.P: pronunciation: January, February, short form about 12 months.

Teaching aids: cards, picture, tape.

Teaching procedures:

Step1. Warm-up/ Revision

1.      Sing the song: What’s your favourite season?

2.      Free talk: Do you like spring/ …? What’s the weather like in spring/…? What can we do in spring/…?

Step2. Presentation

Let’s start

1.      Q: How many seasons in a year?

     How many moths in a year? What are they?

   learn to say the 12 months:  T: read the word 3 times, Ss listen carefully,

then follow T.

2.      Q: How many months are there in a year/ spring/ summer/ fall/ winter? What are they?

Spring: Mar. Apr. May.       Summer: June. July. Aug.

 Fall: Sep. Oct. Nov.          Winter: Dec. Jan. Feb.

3.      Match the months with the seasons, ask and answer.

4.      Game: Before and after

Show one month and put up right/ left hand, Ss say the before/ after month.

left—before  right—after

Game ( remember the order of the months)

1)        A: Jan, Jan  B: Feb, Feb  A: Feb, Feb  B: Mar, Mar

2)        A: Jan, Jan  B: Feb, Feb  A: Mar, Mar  B: Apr, Apr

3)        A: Jan, Jan, Feb  B: Feb, Feb, Mar  A: Mar, Mar, Apr.

4)        A: May, May  B: June, June   A: Aug, Aug    B: Sep, Sep.

read the words about months---- read in 2.

Notice: abbreviation   3 letters of the beginning, big letter

special: May   June   July 

Let’s learn

1.      T: There are 12 months in a year. Nov. is my favourite month, because my birthday is in Nov. What about you? Ss say freely.

2.      Learn to say: When is your birthday? My birthday is in____.

3.      Practsie in 2, ask and answer.

Introduce: My partner/ ___’s / His/ Her birthday is in ____.

4.      Look at the chart, try to remember the person’s birthday in 1 minute.

e.g.  A: When is Wu Yifan’s birthday?   B: His birthday is in Jan.

Step3. Activity

1.      Make a survey: Who has a birthday in January/ …? Stand up! Write the number on the corresponding month. Divide the class into 12 groups.

2.      Listen and do: stand up and say the month.

3.      Group work: Make the class birthday chart.

A: How many birthdays are there in January/…?   B: There are…

4.      Let’s chant.

1)      Try to read, explain and learn to say and do: Raise your hands. Stand up.  Touch your nose/ toes/ knees. ( clap )

2)      Read after T, read together.

3)      Say and do. ( corresponding month, different month & different action )

Step4. Consolidation and extension

1.      Do activity book “A Let’s learn”.

2.      Copy the four-skill words.

3.      Make birthday cards for friends.
